Reaves students show off summer fashions at annual Lions Club Style Show

Greetings Conroe, from the “greatest Lion’s Club in the world.” Conroe Noon’s local membership continues to grow and now stands at 319 members and is recognized as the largest community-oriented organization in Texas and Montgomery County.

CNLC serves our community by providing high school scholarships, youth scholarship contests, mentoring programs and much more. It is because of Conroe and the surrounding community we continue to have success in fundraisers to provide for our youth, our hometown heroes serving in the military, our seniors, and disadvantaged children throughout the community. It is because of our members, who give their time, their financial resources, and their heart to make someone else’s day a little brighter.

During this week’s luncheon at the Lone Star Convention Center, members were treated to the 2022 Special Spring Style Show, which showcased our adopted school Reaves Elementary. Students modeled some summer fashion on stage to highlight some of the CNLC projects held throughout the year. Kindergarten and Pre-K sisters, Estel and Freya, modeled for the Reading to Student program. The next model up was 8-year-old Mia, who represented the Lion’s Eyeglass Center program. The Christmas Basket project was modeled by second grader Ariana and representing the Scholarship Projects was Pre-K student Areilla. Then came the Texas Lions Camp representatives, 7-year-old twins Kaleb and Tyler, followed by “kids on the lake” event representatives Melanie and Noah. And last but not least, 6-year-old Gatlin, rocked onto the stage in honor of our Hometown Military Hero project to the sounds of “Born in the USA.” A huge Thank You to the staff at Reaves Elementary School for show casing the future talent of Conroe. The Master of Ceremony was former Lion’s Club President, Scott Perry.

Speaking of Reaves, CNLC will also be hosting Sno-cone Days on this Thursday and Friday at the school. Lion volunteers should plan to sign-up and help out at the school’s last big event.

Our “Kids on the Lake” fishing tournament took place on Saturday. So next week, look for a recap on all the wonderful special needs children who will have caught fish, rode on a hayride, and enjoyed the bounce house. I’m sure it was a ton of fun for all the kids.

The “May Mixer at Madeley” will be held this Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. The Membership Committee is hosting the spring mixer at The Table of Madeley, a new indoor/outdoor venue in beautiful downtown Conroe, located at 316 Madeley St., Conroe.

CNLC will also be hosting their annual Golf Tournament on June 2 at the Walden Golf Course in Montgomery. Individual and team spots are still available but will fill up fast. Contact the club office if you’re interested in playing. Membership not necessary.

And now I’m wearing my other hat and I want to let you know this Thursday at 11 a.m., Conroe Police Department will be hosting a ceremony at Heritage Park in Downtown Conroe in observation of National Police Week. This ceremony has been held every year since 1981 and recognizes Police Officers that paid the ultimate price to serve their communities.
