This Week, the Best Dressed Stars Had a Sense of Humor

Anyone itching to have some fun ought to dress the part. Last week as celebrities headed to music festivals, awards shows, and nights out on the town, they did so in high concept pieces that focused on humor. Performers with a keen understanding of camp leaned into the kind of kitschy glamour that resonates online—the sight of Harry Styles strutting across the Coachella stage in his mirrored Gucci jumpsuit set the internet alight—but even understated stars got in on the fun. Euphoria’s versatile Sydney Sweeney can be minimalist one moment and glitzy the next, but the pastel plaid Alessandra Rich suit she chose for Laneige skincare’s Los Angeles pop-up was an effervescent 90s throwback worthy of Cher Horowitz.

Last seen in a classically elegant Carolina Herrera column gown at the Oscar after-parties, Zoey Deutch went tongue-in-cheek for her trip to the Daily Front Row’s awards in a cutlery-covered Moschino suit from Jeremy Scott’s fall 2022 collection. From afar, the Deutch’s strategically placed golden embellishments seemed like the braided trim of a classic Hussar jacket, but up close, one could appreciate the knives, forks, and spoons. Either way, there was no denying that Deutch ate the look up.

As host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live, Lizzo had her hands full this weekend. Still, she found time to sneak in a few fashion moments onstage at Studio 8H. While debuting the title track of her forthcoming album, Special, she wore a hot pink ensemble. The flowing magenta cape, crystal-studded corsetry, and ruched mini-skirt were the perfect complement to the introspective song and perfectly captured the high-energy appeal of Lizzo’s style.

Equally appealing was the red carpet return of Björk. The Icelandic music legend stays under the radar but emerged from her lair for the premiere of Roger Eggers’s cerebral epic, The Northman, in which she has a supporting role. Dressed in an arresting Loewe gown complete with a shiny breastplate, she delivered the kind of madcap fashion moment only she could provide, and the week was better for it.
